Transitioning into Garage Season

Why is November one of the best months of the year to get together with thousands of other car enthusiasts? The people at the SEMA (Special Equipment Market Association) show know.

November is, after all, a transition month. Memories of summer road trips are still fresh, but the open road is a little less friendly and, for most of us, it’s time to go for one last spin before the weather changes for good.

Seemingly overnight, you’ve moved from carefree summer evenings to your cocooning phase, hiding out in the garage for the next few months, overhauling an engine or tearing down a new restoration project.

It’s time to get your hands dirty.

But before you start, the people behind the world’s largest automotive aftermarket show want to set the stage by revealing the newest design concepts, tools and accessories available for the upcoming garage season.

All the big players will be there.

The NY Times reports that Audi, who is making their first ever SEMA appearance, is focusing on luxury specialized accessories, like wheels. For the car maker, the trend this year is on personalizing one’s car.

Audi will also be displaying the upcoming 710-Horsepower R8 Spyder and a half dozen other new offerings.

Toyota will be in racing form at the show, bringing a highly modified RTR (Ready To Race) Tacoma X-Runner with them. In what they’re calling a “parts bin” build, the truck has been constructed -- with a few exceptions -- with publicly available Toyota parts.

Other highly modified offerings from Mercedes-Benz to Hyundai will no doubt be catching the imaginations of dedicated gear heads wandering the corridors of the show in perpetual, four wheeled bliss.
